WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the end of the Food and Nutrition Service’s comment period on reforms to the school lunch program, Dan Savickas, FreedomWorks Foundation’s Regulatory Policy Manager, commented:

"Yesterday, the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) within the Department of Agriculture (USDA) closed the comment period on its proposed changes to the National School Lunch Program. FreedomWorks activists submitted over 5,600 comments to that docket and its extension, accounting for roughly 15 percent of the total comments submitted.

“Our activists have shown, year after year, a dedication to removing some of the most unnecessary regulations of the Obama era. The restrictions on school lunches were among the most pointless of these. They lead to more food waste and less enjoyable meals for our nation’s kids. Especially in a time like this, we need our schools to have as much flexibility as possible to deliver nutrients to the student body. We hope FNS will move forward swiftly to finalize this important reform.”
